Many shelters require your current dogs to meet adoptive dogs.Otherwise, they may not release your information. If you need to provide contact info for your vet, let your vet know ahead of time.Usually, you'll need to get some paperwork in order: a photo ID, vaccination/medical records for any pets you currently have, possibly your vet's contact info and a couple of personal references, and (for renters) proof you're allowed to have a pet (copy of your lease or your landlord's contact info). ![]() This especially applies for puppies, which are adopted out quickly. Adopting from a rescue generally is the most expensive option here and takes the longest, but you get an animal that's been cared for in a loving home environment and their foster can tell you a lot about their personality.Ħ Tips to Improve Your Adoption ExperienceĪdoption processes vary drastically from organization to organization, but here are some general tips that apply in most instances. They'll help you through the application process and set up a time for you to meet the animal at the foster's home. Bioassay data indicated that toxicity associated with the plume extended to depths of about 55 feet below land surface. Phenol analyses provided data supplemental to the HPLC analyses. Analyses from these methods showed that the highest concentrations of contaminants were detected at depths less than about 35 feet below land surface. GC/PID and HPLC methods of water-quality analysis provided the most data concerning contaminants in the ground-water and proved to be the most effective in creosote plume detection. This method left doubt as to the integrity of the samples collected once zones of contamination were penetrated. Following the DPT work, a modified-auger method was tested by the USGS. With the assistance of an auger rig, this depth was extended to about 65 feet by pushing the tools in advance of the augers. DPT piezocone and cone-penetrometer-type tools provided lithologic data and ground-water samples at two onsite stations to a depth of refusal of about 35 feet below land surface. The groundwater samples were analyzed using (1) gas chromatography with photo-ionization detection (GS/PID), (2) high- performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), (3) colonmetric phenol analysis, and (4) toxicity bioassay. To our surprise four months later little Bella needed to be removed from her home where her buyers could no longer keep her. When it was our turn to pick the process was made easy and we fell in love at first sight with our Max! Max’s demeanor & personality made me fall in love with him even more! We had only had Max for two months and I knew every boxer after from that point on would always be purchased through Mountain Crest Boxers. Marc and Eileen’s communication throughout the entire process was amazing! From when the dogs were going to breed, when they were going to the vet, how many puppies that appeared to be in each mama and every step along the way we knew our puppy was in amazing hands. From my very first email that I sent to Mountain Crest Boxers the response time was prompt, detailed and informative. "That was an in joke, you see," Clarke said. ![]() "He had been my math professor at King's College, London, and he became professor of astronomy at Urbana, and that was a tribute to him."Ĭlarke added that the rendition of "Daisy" was a tip of the cap to his friend John Pierce, who had given him a tour of Bell Labs and demonstrated a computer that sang that song. It's pure coincidence."Īs for HAL's birthplace, "The reason I chose to put him at the University of Illinois-Urbana was that my old math professor was a professor there, George McVittie," Clarke said. Soon after the film came out, somebody pointed out this resemblance, and this has become part of the mythology. "As far as I know, Stanley and I cooked up the name HAL, and if we'd noticed any resemblance to IBM, we would have changed it because IBM was very helpful to us. One legend that I've been trying to stamp out is that HAL was derived from IBM, which is, of course, utter nonsense. But then, I think it was Stanley probably who changed it to HAL. It's been jargon around the university probably since IBM became a big name in computers." "HAL is simply the three letters that precede IBM. Scott said computer technicians used to apply the nickname to their own homemade machines. "HAL has been around the university as a term since the '50s," said Linda Scott, comptroller of HAL Communications Corp., an Urbana-based communications-systems company that occasionally gets phone calls from people who "want to talk to HAL." The Urbana-HAL connection begins in different places, depending on the storyteller. "HAL was the first computer to become a famous personality and become part of public mythology," the ailing, 74-year-old writer said from his home in Sri Lanka. Clarke, who collaborated with Kubrick on the screenplay, based on Clarke's short story "The Sentinel," said he sees HAL's birthday as a milestone.
